2\. The Lookout Deck

There’s a reason The Lookout Deck tops almost every Plett restaurant list. Perched right above Lookout Beach where the Keurbooms River lagoon meets the sea, the views alone are worth the visit, but the food more than holds its own. The seafood is sourced locally, and the kitchen handles everything from platters of grilled crayfish and tempura prawns to a surprisingly good Cape Malay mutton curry. Tucked into a historic building on Crescent Street and connected to the White House Theatre, Nguni is where South African cuisine gets the fine-dining treatment without losing its soul. 4\. Ristorante Enrico

“Any closer and you’ll get wet” is Enrico’s motto, and it’s barely an exaggeration. Sitting right on the sand at Keurboomstrand with Robberg Peninsula framing the horizon, this Italian restaurant is one of the most scenic spots on the entire Garden Route. Owner-chef Enrico is famous for wandering out of the kitchen to chat with guests, and the homely, relaxed atmosphere feels like dining at a friend’s beach house. Part craft brewery, part smokehouse, part bakery, Barrington’s is a Piesang Valley destination in its own right. The slow-smoked free-range meats are the headline act, but the house-made pork dumplings and the kimchi chicken burger have earned cult followings of their own. Pair everything with their on-site brewed beers (the beer-and-bacon mussel pot is a must), and finish with their berry beer and vanilla ice cream cone. Moby’s has occupied one of the best seats in Plett, right on Central Beach, for years, and the combination of sweeping bay views, Robberg Peninsula in the distance, and solid pub-meets-bistro cooking keeps it packed. The wood-fired pizzas are reliably great, the oysters are shucked fresh, and the daily specials are worth asking about (Thursday burger night and Sunday seafood specials draw crowds). On a clear day, keep your eyes on the water. Dolphin and whale sightings from your table are a regular bonus.

A short drive into Piesang Valley, Roadside Café feels more like visiting a friend’s farm than going to a restaurant. The wooden interiors open onto a garden with mountain views; there’s a play area for the kids, and the kitchen turns out some of the freshest food in Plett: braai steaks and fish tacos with pineapple slaw, vegan burgers, and towering slabs of French toast. The cakes and scones are baked daily and disappear fast. Rated Plett’s top café, and it’s easy to see why.
