About the bungalow
We were built around a single idea: that the most
luxurious thing a hotel can offer is the feeling that it belongs to you.
There is a version of luxury that keeps you at arm’s length. Marble lobbies. Formal dining. Staff who call you by a title you don’t use at home. The Bungalow is not that version.
We are a boutique hotel on the beachfront in Plettenberg Bay, with eight suites and rooms sitting directly above Hobie Beach, under a canopy of old milkwood trees, with the Indian Ocean close enough to hear from every corner of the property.
Right on the shore
Step outside, and you are already there. The sea-facing viewing deck sits beneath the milkwood canopy, a tangle of ancient, indigenous trees that have shaded this stretch of coastline longer than anyone can remember. Loungers, beanbags, and the sound of the ocean. No agenda.
Above it, the upper deck opens over the entire bay, Hobie Beach stretching out below, the Robberg Peninsula in the distance, the kind of view that makes sundowners feel like an event worth planning around.
The plunge pool catches the summer sun in the space between the two decks, and on the rock cliff-face side of the property, a fire boma tucks into the cliff for the smaller, quieter evenings: wine, fire, the close dark of the coast at night.
The beach itself is a short walk. Not a shuttle. Not a map. A walk.
Our garden has won awards, which sounds formal for a place this relaxed, but when you see what the previous owners of this land left behind in the soil, you understand. This coast grows things.

Some guests find us because they know Plettenberg Bay and want the room closest to the water. Some find us because they’re road-tripping the Garden Route and need a reason to stop longer than planned. Some are overseas visitors arriving in South Africa for the first time, searching for somewhere that makes the coastline feel intimate rather than overwhelming.
What they share is a preference for places that have a character of their own. Places where the people who run them care about the details, not because a brand standard says so, but because this particular stretch of coast deserves it.
